Transformative Steps in Higher Education: KPI4HE Project Kick-off in Yerevan

The kick-off meeting for the ERASMUS+ project, "Establishment of National Framework of Key Performance Indicators for good governance and quality towards inclusive, digital, and green-oriented higher education in Armenia" (KPI4HE), unfolded at the Yerevan State University (YSU) Scientific Council Hall, with a robust agenda and esteemed participants.The event had distinguished invited speakers and paved the way for significant changes.Several dedicated staff members from the Institute for Informatics and Automation Problems (IIAP) actively participated in the event, bringing engagement and valuable contributions to the collaborative atmosphere, reflecting IIAP's commitment to the transformative goals of the project. 

Warm Welcome from Dignitaries
The proceedings opened with a warm welcome from distinguished dignitaries: Dr. Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, Rector of Yerevan State University; His Excellency Mr. Vassilis Maragos, Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia; Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Artur Martirosyan; and Mrs. Lana Karlova, Programme Coordinator from the National Erasmus+ Office in Armenia. Their welcome notes underscored the significance of the project in reshaping higher education landscapes.

In a notable highlight, His Excellency Mr. Vassilis Maragos expressed, "We are pleased to actively contribute to education reforms, offering invaluable insights. Human capacity development is a key focus area for us, and we are ready to bring substantial value to this endeavor." This commitment emphasizes the collaborative spirit driving the KPI4HE project.
Mrs. Lana Karlova shared her anticipation, that the outcome may go beyond the project's initial objectives with its impact, signaling a collective commitment to achieving excellence. This forward-looking perspective aligns with the project's overarching goal of establishing a national framework for key performance indicators, promoting good governance, quality, inclusivity, and a digital-green focus in higher education across Armenia.

Getting to Know Each Other
Following the welcoming notes, participants engaged in a 'Getting to Know Each Other' session, allowing institutions to present their teams and roles in the project.
Dr. Hasmik Sahakyan, the Scientific Secretary of IIAP NAS RA and Local Coordinator for the #KPI4HE project, delivered a presentation about the Institute for Informatics and Automation Problems (IIAP), its activities and the team members participating in the project.This insightful session set the tone for collaborative efforts in the pursuit of higher education excellence.

Project Objectives and Work Plan Insights
Prof. Dr. Alexander Markarov, Coordinator of the KPI4HE project and Head of International Cooperation Office at YSU, presented an overview of the project's objectives, activities, deliverables, and life cycle, emphasizing its focus on good governance, quality, inclusivity, and a digital-green orientation in higher education.The work plan sessions delved into various aspects, including capacity building, development, institutional research, strategic planning, quality control, and dissemination. Representatives from partner institutions, including Carl Von Ossietzky Universitaet Oldenburg, Universita Degli Studi Di Genova, and the National Center for Professional Education Quality Assurance Foundation, provided valuable insights into their respective work packages.

The second day commenced with an overview of the project's financial management rules, presented by Dr. Arsen Aproyan, KPI4HE project Co-Coordinator and Head of Grant Coordination Department at YSU. The day also included KPI Group discussions, where working groups addressed various aspects such as university management, green strategic planning, organization of the educational process, internationalization, quality assurance, and science and digitalization.
The event concluded with the approval by the Governing Board of crucial project components, including the project methodology, consortium agreement, agenda of the project's first-year activities, project dissemination plan, and project quality assessment, control, and monitoring strategy.

The KPI4HE project is dedicated to bring transformative changes to higher education in Armenia, with a commitment to excellence, sustainability, and inclusivity. As the project unfolds, it is expected to set new benchmarks for good governance, quality, and a forward-looking approach in higher education.
